Northampton Carnival Features Page ... Throughout the carnival weekend there was many events and performers, although the carnival itself was fantastic the celebrations continued straight after at Royal & Derngate, as they hosted the After Carnival Party with Allen Toussaint and the Preservation Hall Band from 7.30pm on 9 June. It promised to be a fantastic way to end the day and it was, the band got audiences partying to their New Orleans Jazz sound. For more information in the venue you can visit Royal & Derngate's new look website where you can now book tickets online for it. I personally really enjoyed this great event, as although I'm not a huge jazz follower I find the music easy going and great to party with. Allen Toussaint was born in 1938, and is one of the most influential music songwriters in New Orleans Rhythm and Blues. He was hugely involved in song writing for various artists during the 1950's and 1960's. It was not until the 1970's when he started a solo career interest. He also co-owned a studio during this time which has led him up to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 1998. The preservation hall jazz band derives its name from the preservation hall created and founded by Allan and Sandra Jaffe back in 1961. The hall has held many business's over the years and still houses local music to the joys of visitors enticed to listen to a pure experience of sound. The band began touring in 1963 and has been a world phenomenon since now it come to Northampton with Allen Toussaint to bring the music spirit of new Orleans to Northampton. The event is set to be a spectacular finish to what is brewing up to be a great year for the town to advertise itself and bring the carnival culture and festival atmosphere to the people and the communities of Northampton.
