Northampton Carnival Features Page ... Continuing the preparations for Northampton carnival 2007 I went along to the Northampton Afro-Caribbean Association Centre on Claire Street to find out what all the noise was about with the Steel Pan lesson's that started this week. I pulled up with my window open in the muggy weather that has lingered over Northampton today and heard the sounds of the soca and the music of the islands drifting out of the NACA centre. When walking inside it was evident the enthusiasm the children were having from learning how to play yellow bird on the steel pans being taught under the guidance of Leroy Wright and Cliff Emmanuel Augustine. The Steel pan lesson's are currently being funded by Local Network Funding and the Northampton Borough Council. With fellow carnival arts consortium members Morcea Walker and inspiration FM's Mark Dean in attendance it was obvious to me who was enjoying the teaching most with Mark quite happily drumming away at the back of the room! Steel pan lesson's seem like great fun and a good way of getting involved in this years carnival so feel free to get in touch with us to find out more by clicking on the email link on the main menu or by clicking here. You can pop along at the NACA centre each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to receive Leroy and Cliff's excellent tuition or phone us on 07913 503996.
