Timings of the day

Delapre Park will open to the public at 12pm

Stage performances start at 12.15pm - 1.45pm, during this time there will be a funfair and many public attractions and traders. Quad bikes, Northampton Town Football in the community, Bouncy Castles, A Snake Charmer, Jewellery, Arts & Crafts and a skate park will be some of the highlights.

The carnival parade will be opened by the mayor of Northampton, Michael Hill and starts at 2pm and heads off on its route returning to the park approx 4.30pm.

The stage will re-open from 2.15pm - 4.30pm with many local acts performing like the stiggz, and follies theatre school.

4.30pm - 7.30pm - Anne Frank Awards will take place, the carnival winner's will be presented and performances from the youth band the zion lions, royal and derngate and shean Williams will be accompanied by Chaplins Stage School and european dance group Dance Vybz.

Carnival information....

Diversions will be in place
(Coming from Bedford A428) – Diversion towards A5123 heading towards St Andrews Road, Broad Street
(Coming from Juct 15, Wootton, Hardingstone, A45) – Diversion along Mereway A45, Towcester Road, Horsemarket.
(Coming from St James - St Peter’s Way direction) – Diversions in place towards Gas Street, Horsemarket, Lady’s Lane.
Road Closures will be in place from 1pm although some in town centre will be in place beforehand.
St Leonards Road, Euston Road, Southampton Road – there will be signs indicating road ahead closed and diverted accordingly towards Towcester Road.
Ransome Road and other one way roads that come onto London Road will be closed for the parade passing but reopen after to direct traffic towards Towcester road.
Road closures in place on St Giles Street & St Giles Terrace so anyone coming up Billing Road won’t be able to go into town centre through St Giles Street. Either be directed towards Spencer Bridge Road or down Cheyne Walk.
Car Parks will have a route out to the main road during and before the carnival.
Most town centre roads (Bridge Street etc) will be closed by 1pm.

Additional information
The taxi rank will be moved to Fishmarket area temporarily for the duration of the parade (2pm-4.30pm)
Check local press for details of other roads / parking nearer the time.

Thursday, 5th - Saturday 7th March 2009:

Northampton and Poitiers rocked Marburg!

For the 14th time the MaNo (Marburg-Northampton) - Musicfestival rocked Marburg, twin city of Northampton since 1992. From Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th, 60 bands from Marburg, six groups from Northampton and one from Poitiers played in the 13 clubs and pubs in the historical center of the old Hessian city. An enthusiastic audience were guaranteed, not only by many Marburger citizens that know the event until 1995, but also by many students that revive the culture scene in the university town.

The festival started with an opening concert with all „twins“ in the cellar vault of Marburg’s Irish Pub Molly Malones. Among those were the Northamptonian’s  groups Chris & Spud, Vic Suhr, the songwriter Robert Bray, The Predecimals, Cousin Avi and Vender. Marburg’s and Northampton’s twin city Poitiers were represented with the band Pitchouchoulex named after a nonsense word.

The whole event is a non-profit festival organized by volunteers from the Marburger MusikerInnenverein (Musician Association Marburg) and Northampton event team John Marais. That’s why the visitors only have to pay a small entrance fee and can walk during the whole night from one pub to another enjoying themselves and getting a taste of good music of all kind of styles.Since its beginning, many relationships were created between the French-German-British twins. Therefore later in the year, a similar event, the “Twinfest”, takes place in Northampton. Bands from Marburg and Poitiers come to enjoy the musical scene in their British twin city.

Website updated with a new community event section in our news page to the right, if you have an event you would like us to advertise let us know. There is some new archive information in 1972 from Simon Tasker. If you want to get involved let us know by ringing, emailing or leaving a message for us. The event is looking good this year with support now from Northampton Saints, Northampton Town F.C.

Thankyou to everyone who made this years event the best ever, the crowds were massive and it was a lovely sight from my point of view to see so many different types of communities supporting the event and seeing what was a terrific local turnout on the route. Everything went ok, people enjoyed themselves and I personnally enjoyed seeing everyone take part in the amazing costumes this year.

I have updated the site throughout archiving last years images and adding fresh images from this years event, more will be added in due course. I'd like to personally thank David Rogers of EM Rogers for jumping in to help us with transport at the last minute.

TIMETABLE FOR 2008

Friday 13th June
The theme for Friday night will be Music Night in the Market Square, and will run from 5pm - 9.30pm.  An exciting line-up of music from around the world is promised.

CARNIVAL DAY Saturday 14th June
At Delapre Park, London Road.
Park opens 12 noon. Attractions include a fun fair, stalls, entertainment on stage. Parade sets of at 2pm from the park, goes through the town and returns to the park. An amazing afternoon of entertainment is promised for the whole family.
Troupes from Leicester, Luton, Derby & Nottingham will be appearing in the parade. parade.
This year’s parade route will be as follows: Delapre Park - London Road - Cotton End - Bridge Street - Mercers Row - Abington Street - St Giles Terrace - St Giles Street - St John’s Street - Victoria Gardens - (Victoria Promenade) - Cattlemarket Road - Bridge Street - Cotton End - London Road - Delapre Park. It will start Approx 2pm and finish 4-4.30pm.

Sunday 15th June
On Sunday afternoon Let’s Dance in the Market Square features Polish, Indian, Maypole, salsa, line dancing and many other forms of dance in an event which promises a huge crowd from 12.30pm - 6pm.

The official Northampton Carnival After Party will be at the NWICA 42 Sheep Street. Contact them for more information about this.
